The ordinary salary calculation follows RAL → employee contributions → taxable income → gross IRPEF → credits → local taxes → net pay. A payslip also reflects contractual items, payment timing and annual adjustments.

The main lines in a worked example

For €30,000 RAL in Milan, the basic profile gives €2,757 IVS, €27,243 taxable income, €6,265.89 gross IRPEF, €2,044.29 employment credit and €1,000 extra payroll credit. Net IRPEF is €3,221.60 and local tax €595.88, giving €23,425.52 annual net. The municipal tax is a 2025 carryover estimate.

The ordinary model uses 9.19% employee IVS and an additional 1% above the annual threshold where applicable. FIS, CIGS and contractual funds may add contributions. Employer contributions, TFR and INAIL are separate employer-cost items.

Contracts and part-time work

Your collective agreement sets pay components, minimums and additional salary payments. Compare RAL and benefits, rather than the advertised monthly figure alone.

For part-time work enter actual reduced-hours RAL. Employment-credit days are not reduced merely because you work fewer hours: a full-year part-time worker can still have 365 qualifying days. Net pay is not simply proportional to full-time net pay.

Apprenticeship and mismatches

The model uses 5.84% employee IVS for private-sector apprenticeship. Lower contributions increase ordinary taxable income and can change credits, so the 3.35 percentage-point contribution difference is not the same as the increase in net pay.

Local-tax instalments, bonuses, overtime, contractual funds and annual adjustments can make a month differ from the annual average. Check the method and limits, select your actual payroll options and compare annual figures.

Frequently asked questions

Is INPS always 9.19%? ▾

No. That is the basic private-employee IVS profile used here. Contract, funds, ceilings and additional contributions can change the total.

Do part-time credit days follow hours? ▾

No. Days of entitlement and the percentage of working hours are separate facts.
