Two CU certificates: income and Italian tax-return adjustments

Two CU certificates can lead to a tax-return adjustment because each payer’s withholding may differ from tax on combined income. They do not automatically mean two amounts to add or a guaranteed tax bill: one CU may already consolidate the other. The 730/2026 reports 2025 income; a 2026 job change belongs to the 2027 return.

Check whether income has already been consolidated

The Revenue Agency’s multiple-CU guidance distinguishes independent certificates from those replaced by a consolidated CU. Inspect income paid by other parties before adding figures.

If employer A certifies €10,000 and employer B certifies €25,000 including A’s €10,000 in its adjustment, the combined figure is not €35,000. If both certificates cover distinct income only, that income must be considered together.

A gross-IRPEF illustration for 2026 income

Two separate taxable incomes of €18,000 each produce €4,140 gross IRPEF apiece at 23%, or €8,280 combined. On €36,000 assessed together, gross IRPEF is €6,440 plus €2,640: €9,080, a difference of €800.

This is not your predicted tax-return bill: it excludes credits, payroll relief, local taxes and advance payments, and uses taxable income rather than RAL. The second band is still 35% for 2025 income in the 730/2026. See the return-year guide.

Withholding and employment periods

The tax settlement statement compares final tax with withholding and other amounts paid or recognised. Adding take-home payments cannot reconstruct that calculation. Credits and supplementary allowances also depend on the overall tax facts.

Check the income year, distinct taxable amounts, withholding and any consolidation. Overlapping employment days do not count twice for employment credits. Use the latest certificates and compare them with the pre-filled return. Salary plus NASpI also needs this review.

After filing or when changing jobs

An omitted CU may require a different correction depending on whether it increases tax or improves the balance. See the October return-correction guide.

Ask payroll what previous-income documents it needs for a consolidated adjustment. QuantoNetto estimates annual salary; it does not read CU certificates, detect duplicate income or prepare the 730.

Estimate salary, then check the tax return

The salary calculator uses RAL. A tax-return balance requires CU certificates, withholding and your complete tax facts.

Frequently asked questions

Does having two CUs always mean more tax? ▾

No. Distinct income, adjustments already made, withholding, credits and other facts determine the result.

Should I simply add every CU? ▾

No. A consolidated certificate may already include another payer’s income. Identify distinct amounts first.

Does a 2026 job change affect the 730/2026? ▾

No. That return reports 2025 income. Income received in 2026 is assessed in the 2027 return.
